"I took my cello and played my opened strings. So the files that say “OpenA, OpenD,” etc. are the 4 open strings on my cello. I played each one a little differently. Some just with a slow bow, some with a fast. I might have accented a few things or stopped along the way. It was basically just whatever I was feeling at the instant I was recording."
What i did with these recordings is throw it into a generative setup in ableton i made fresh for this and started to send midi into it. Inside the setup there were three channels each containing 2 - 3 generative chains, each chain acted differently to the midi and interpreted it in its own way. After recording the generative part i then went back and cut up a improv she has recorded for me and layered that throughout the piece.
